This month, we are supporting and spotlighting a cause near to the Goods team's heart. Our Director of Brand Partnerships, Scott Cooper, serves on the Young Leadership Board for Cancer Support Community of North Texas, a local organization that ensures that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.
We’re proud to rally behind Scott and host a happy hour on Thursday, September 26th from 5:30-7:30PM at Prim and Proper, where we will donate 20% of the happy hour proceeds to the organization.
But first, get to know Scott and why he joined Cancer Support Community.
Tell us about yourself and your role at NG.
I'm Scott Cooper, Director of Partnerships at Neighborhood Goods. I joined the team a little over a year ago and I help identify brand partners for NG and develop our relationships with them throughout the process. I also serve on the Young Leadership Board for Cancer Support Community of North Texas.
I live in the Knox/Henderson area of Dallas with my German Shepherd pup Luca. When not at NG, you can always find me eating with friends at any of my fave spots in Dallas (the crispy chicken sandwich at Honor Bar - hello!) and subsequently at Equinox (to ward off the aforementioned chicken sandwich).
Tell us about Cancer Support Community of North Texas.
Cancer Support Community of North Texas is dedicated to offering a community where people with cancer and their loved ones can learn to live with cancer, and hopefully beyond it. The community is their lifeline to strength, hope, support, and guidance. We provide completely free of charge education, support/networking groups for adults and children, workshops and social events, and bereavement support for adults and children. The community has three clubhouses throughout North Texas.
The mission of CSCNT is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.
How/why did you get involved and why is the group important to you?
I joined the Young Leadership Board of Cancer Support Community of North Texas a few years ago after learning of the clubhouses from a friend. I was immediately drawn to the cause and the mission, as I lost my mother to cancer as a kid. I have many memories of cold hospital waiting rooms, sterile long white tiled hallways and countless trips to doctors' appointments. There was never a place that felt comfortable or inviting at the hospital and once I saw the clubhouse and heard about the amazing things that happen there (for everyone), I knew I wanted to be a part of making sure it continues to grow and thrive!
How can others get involved?
- Come to the NG HH! 20% of proceeds are going straight to the charity.
- Rock The Red Door, the largest fundraiser for the YLB of CSCNT, is held on October 25th. It's a Halloween Party with live music, a silent auction and lots of dancing! Grab your friends and come join us! It's the best time to debut your Halloween Costume– bonus points for a group costume ;)
- If you can't make it to either event and would still like to show support - you can donate here.
